You all know about Texas. It's the land of oil and cattle, the Dallas Cowboys and real cowboys, and, of course, J. R. Ewing and Southfork. Texas doesn't do small, except for one thing: it does 1 storey home s [sic] with flair.

Texas offers a cornucopia of architectural designs such as adobe homes and farmhouses, Craftsman and mid-century modern homes, bungalows [sic], and Mediterranean homes. The Lone Star State knows the heat of summer, the chill of winter as well as the destructive winds of hurricanes of the Gulf of Mexico. For this reason, one-level homes or ranch-style homes are important.

One Story Homes And The Weather

It isn't only the cities on the Gulf such as Galveston and Corpus Christi that get hit with hurricanes. When hurricanes hit land, they turn into raging storms of frightful force. They then head for cities like San Antonio and Austin.

You can be Texan and not eat Tex-Mex, but don't tell anyone. Steak is the Texas specialty, and each city has its premier steak house. In Abilene (do you hear echoes of Glenn Campbell?) it's the Beehive Restaurant. In Lubbock (can you hear Mac Davis singing?) it's the Las Brisas Southwest Steakhouse. Oddly, pecan pie is also a Texas specialty, and man, do we mean special.

The Texas Lifestyle For Seniors

Seniors make up about 30 percent of Texans. They live in major hubs like Houston, Corpus Christi, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth, and El Paso. Affordable 1 storey home s [sic] and bungalow s [sic], both with a main floor master, is only one of the reasons seniors vote to live in Texas.

Texas is one of the few states with no personal state income tax. Elderly bones won't suffer from the cold, unless they live in the northern part of the state. Add in all the steak they can eat, and seniors have a real paradise.

For years, mature couples and empty nesters chased their kids and pets up and down stairs, around corners, and under sofas (and that's just the kids.) These heroes and heroines now have a chance to enjoy a laid-back lifestyle in an open floor plan one-story stairless house. 

What luxury! No more cereal or mustard from dropped hot dogs on the floor. No more shoes and socks beneath the kitchen table. No more stuffed animals or toys on the stairs to trip you up (or down, as the case may be.) You can enjoy a house set among beautiful trees featuring hardwood floors, lots of windows, and an incredible kitchen with an island. 

You can enjoy anything from a sprawling one-story house to a cottage-type house. Although it is Texas, so you have to go big. Find that one-level home that could take up a city block, and you'll be a Texan at last.
