Newmarket Community Summary
Newmarket is part of the Greater Toronto Area and Golden Horseshoe of Southern Ontario, and is the regional seat of York Region. For over a century, the downtown area has been a hub of commerce and cultural activity.
Today, though numerous more modern plazas and malls have been built over the years, "Main Street" remains the social and cultural centre of the town, offering many shopping, dining, strolling and people-watching options...including being adjacent to Fairy Lake...
Fairy Lake and park - where early settlers built a mill in the 1800's - is also known as Wesley Brooks Conservation Area. On Water Street at the foot of Main, the Lake and Park are "an urban oasis in the heart of historic downtown" and serve as the venue for many of the Town's festivals, celebrations and outdoor shows.
Some of Newmarket's more notable institutions & landmarks include Southlake Regional Health Centre [hospital], York Region's Administrative Building, The Old Town Hall gallery & theatre, historic Pickering College - a private day and boarding school - as well as a campus of Seneca College, The Tannery [mall & administrative offices/services], Upper Canada Mall, and many parks & recreation centres.

In its "Canada's Best Places to Live", MoneySense magazine - "based on their own methodology" - ranked Newmarket 24th out of 150 areas ranked in Ontario.
The York Region District School Board operates four secondary schools in Newmarket: Dr. John M. Denison Secondary School, Huron Heights Secondary School, Newmarket High School, and Sir William Mulock Secondary School, in addition to 15 elementary schools.
The York Catholic District School Board operates one secondary school in the town - Sacred Heart Catholic High School - along with six elementary schools.
Some of the best neighbourhoods to find Bungalows for sale in Newmarket are Bristol-London [particularly the south portion, just above Davis Drive], Central Newmarket, the northern portion of Gorham-College Manor, Stonehaven-Wyndham, and the southern portion of Huron Heights-Leslie Valley.
